Washington County Schools Named District of Distinction

In 2021, Washington County Schools underwent the accreditation process through Cognia. This process is required and occurs every 5 years. Cognia is a premier nonprofit international accrediting body for K-12 and postsecondary institutions. They accredit educational institutions in 85 countries. Accreditation is a review of the quality of our instruction, processes, and systems.

Using a set of rigorous research-based standards the Cognia Accreditation Process examined the whole institution— the programs, the cultural context, and the community of stakeholders—to determine how well the parts work together to meet the needs of learners.

On November 16, 2021 Washington County Schools received notification that we were included in the inaugural class of recipients for the Cognia Schools of Distinction Award. This award program is an additional recognition for schools and systems that truly stand out in their service to learners.
