Washington County School System Serves 19,000 Meals!

Washington County School System might be modifying their school year, but the one thing they haven’t changed is serving students breakfast and lunch Monday through Friday. The school district has drive-thru sites at all of the schools. They also have 8 sites in the county that can be accessed.

Each day students can pick up lunch for that day and breakfast for the following day. “It was important to us to continue to provide the students with healthy nutritious meals so they can focus on learning at home,” said Karen Yonchak the Director of Food and Nutrition.

The school district credits their hardworking staff, teachers, and volunteers for enabling them to offer this service. “We couldn’t do it without the support we have gotten from the community, school board members, food and nutrition staff, bus drivers, nurses, teachers, coaches, parents, and volunteers. This is a group effort and we thank everyone for lending a helping hand,” Superintendent Dr. Rickey Edmond, stated.

In order to ensure the health of students and staff, the district has their school nurses conduct temperature checks and screenings each morning. These checks occur prior to food preparation. The school district plans to offer meals for pick-up through the last day of school.
